Nick Kastanis is a Toronto-based filmmaker and photographer whose work explores human characters through emotionally honest storytelling and a strong visual sensibility. He works across narrative and commercial film as a director, producer, and colourist.
His narrative short film The Sunsets in the West premiered theatrically at the Greek International Film Festival Tour of Canada in 2025 and received multiple awards, including Best Script and Best Short Drama at the SounDance Film Festival in Argentina. His newest film Chuck’s is set to begin its festival circuit this upcoming summer.
Alongside his directing work, Nick also works as a colourist and producer on independent film projects, and has both produced and coloured documentary and narrative works including Pictures of Gene and Payanum. His background in editing and post-production informs a holistic approach to filmmaking, allowing him to shape projects from their development through to the final image.
In 2020, he received the Best Director award at the Pickering 5-Minute Film Fest for his short film Love, Steve and is currently completing a BFA in Film at Toronto Metropolitan University. In 2020, Nick also co-founded the film and media production company March Break Forever with interdisciplinary artist Amiel Ang.
